Owusu-Bempah receives King Charles III’s Coronation Medal

CrimSL congratulates Professor Akwasi Owusu-Bempah of Sociology on being awarded a King Charles III Coronation Medal for "having demonstrated exceptional qualities and outstanding service to our Province in the field of education, volunteerism and public service." 

He received the award at Massey College's King Charles III Coronation Medal Ceremony on March 12, 2025.

"I’m honoured to have received this award in recognition of my contributions in the field of education. I’m thankful to Massey College for nominating me, and grateful for the opportunity to work with such great colleagues at Massey and across U of T," he says.

Professor Owusu-Bempah is Chair of the Governing Board and a Senior Fellow at Massey College.

Massey College Principal James Orbinski said in an announcement that Owusu-Bempah's unwavering dedication to scholarship and his commitment to fostering an inclusive environment have made a profound impact on Massey College and the broader community.

The Coronation Medal commemorates the 2023 Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III as King of Canada and is administered by the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General. Receipients must have made a significant contribution to Canada or to a particular province, territory, region or community of Canada, or have made an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada.
