CrimSL was delighted to host a very special End-of-Year party on June 15, 2023, welcoming summer while acknowledging and celebrating the contributions of Professor Audrey Macklin, who stepped down as CrimSL Director after six years of service on June 30, 2023.
The gathering had a superb turnout. Guests included current and past members of the CrimSL community - staff, students, postdocs, and faculty - as well as Professor Melanie Woodin, Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Science, and Audrey's family and friends - and it made for a lively celebration on the patio of the elegant L'Espresso Bar Mercurio restaurant at Bloor and St. George.
Delicious hors-d'oeuvres and drinks were enjoyed by all.
Incoming CrimSL Interim Director, Professor Matt Light, welcomed guests and gave a short introduction on the behalf of the Centre.
Short speeches followed from Professor Mariana Valverde, Professor Kamari Clarke, Dr. Jihyun Kwon, PhD student Jona Zyfi, and Professor Melanie Woodin.
Matt then presented Audrey with parting gifts on behalf of the Centre as a token of deep appreciation.
Audrey responded with her thanks and spoke from the heart about her tenure as CrimSL Director. She encouraged attendees to celebrate the accomplishments and challenges of the past year (and beyond), and look forward to the future with confidence.
CrimSL later presented Audrey with a digital Kudoboard of photos, thanks, and well wishes, as an additional memento of her time as director and to extend the celebratory gathering to those who could not make the party in person.
Let's celebrate the year we had and look to the future!
