CrimSL is pleased to welcome back librarian Danielle Van Wagner!
Danielle begins her new role of Head of both the Centre for Criminology & Sociolegal Studies (CrimSL) and the Centre for Industrial Relations & Human Resources (CIRHR) libraries on December 1, 2024.
Danielle received her Masters of Information degree from the University of Toronto in 2017. She worked at the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library from 2017 to 2022, first as an archivist and later as a special collections librarian, before serving as the contract librarian for CrimSL from November 2022 to July 2024. During her time at CrimSL, she engaged with students and faculty by providing one-on-one research consultations and appearing in classes, worked towards making the library a community space, and built and revitalized the collections with a particular focus on rare primary sources with research potential including archives, grey literature, and the penal press.
Danielle is an active member of the library community, both at the University of Toronto and nationally. She participates in committees and working groups, is on the editorial board for Criminological Highlights, and is the second Vice-President for the Bibliographic Society of Canada.
She says:
I am thrilled to be returning to the University of Toronto in a permanent role. I am excited to return to CrimSL, and to engage, learn and build relationships with CIRHR. Managing the libraries of two distinct centres will present challenges, but the rich history of these collections and the research and dedication of their students and faculty will give me a strong foundation to continue to build my own knowledge, grow our collections and help our students to do relevant and necessary research in these fields. I look forward to deepening my understanding of labour studies and the evolving needs of IRHR’s students and faculty, while also preparing CrimSL for its upcoming move by curating a collection that is relevant, dynamic, and forward-thinking for the present and the future.
